A farro salad with a tangy yoghurt dressing

A farro salad with a tangy yoghurt dressing

This salad makes a surprisingly good breakfast. I guess its not a million miles away from granola topped with yoghurt. That said, this feels not only more satisfying, but also eminently suitable for lunch or a light supper.

roast mackerel

Roasted Mackerel with Potatoes and Shallots

Way back in March I made a dish very similar to this, lamenting the fact that I couldn’t get Mackerel and was using Bluefish as a (very fine) substitute. Recently I’ve been seeing more mackerel at market, so I’m very glad to revisit this dish

Grilled Monkfish and Chard Tagine with a Simple Fennel Salad

Grilled Monkfish and Chard Tagine with a Simple Fennel Salad

After a good thanksgiving week of overindulgence I think we all crave a little bit of clean tasting food. Much as I love turkey with all the trimmings and its resulting tryptophan food coma, I need to have something lighter and sharp soon afterwards. But it’s still cold and wintry here, so hearty food is […]

Roasted Squash and roots with Miso Harissa Dressing

Roast Squash and Roots with Miso Harissa Dressing

Our last meal was a pickled herring with stamppot and was perfect for one of those gloomy late-fall days that is cold, grey and damp. This on the other hand is the food equivalent of leaf peeping colourfulness and dry crisp days with blue skies. It’s a warm salad of roasted Delicata squash, celeriac, turnips […]

light baked pasta

Baked Pasta —A light version with Yoghurt, Squash, Kale and Feta

This week I have visitors and so I wanted to start with a dish that I think is a perfect meal to greet people (not so) fresh off a long transatlantic flight. Feeding people who have just arrived after a long journey is a tricky affair. You want to welcome them into your home with […]

Nectarine, couscous and spigarelli broccoli salad

A Farewell Summer Salad of Nectarines, Spigarelli Broccoli, Tomatoes and Couscous

I have to be honest, I’m glad summer is drawing to a close. Coming from a Northern European climate, I struggle with hot days and high humidity is like Kryptonite to me. Of course all that being said, I do like the range of produce it gives us; especially as summer draws to a […]

Grilled Tuna Steak

Grilled Tuna Steak with Rosemary Roast Potatoes

A grilled tuna steak is one of life’s great pleasures. There are some foods—steak, heirloom tomatoes, roast chicken—that respond really well to very simple preparations and tuna certainly belongs in that canon. For this wonderful piece of grilled tuna we’re going to just give it a simple vinaigrette of oregano and lemon for a very […]

pasta salad

Pasta Salad with Fried Vegetables and Plenty of Herbs

This pasta salad is just slipping under the wire as a summer dish. I know that technically it’s not summer anymore but don’t let that deter you. The beauty of this meal is that it can be made ahead of time, and can use up any surplus vegetables and herbs you might have bought or […]

Monkfish with Mango Tabbouleh

Monkfish with Mango and Plum Tabbouleh

I’m probably getting as tired of writing about hot humid weather as you are reading it. But our environment drives our moods for what we eat and how we cook more than we give credit for. This monkfish dish is designed for hot weather: no more than about 4 minutes of heat (or you can […]
