Weekly Menu for October 18th: Family Fare

I have my folks visiting this week so it’s a great chance to bring some old-school skills and experience into the kitchen. We have Barnes & Hoggett’s family favourites along with a great meal for weary travelllers… there’s even a meal for the little ones that are still on a Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller.

What’s fresh at the market this week

This week we are focusing on rich simple ingredients that work well on cooler nights for robust flavours and an easy time in the kitchen; great for if you have friends over for dinner but don’t want or need things to take too much effort.

Do it Yourself

Of course we would like you to get us to buy your groceries for us, but we would also be very happy if you’d support local farmers and stores. If you’d like to make the dishes above, here’s the ingredient list to make the weekly menu to serve two people:

At the market

  • 2 Small Apples
  • Half a Butternut Squash
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Fish Fillets
  • 10 cloves Garlic
  • 2 handfuls Green Beans
  • Half a bunch of Kale
  • Half a bunch of Mint Leaves
  • 2 Onions
  • 6 medium Potatoes
  • Half a medium Red Cabbage
  • 6 Small Sweet Peppers
  • 2 sprigs Tarragon
  • 8 oz Tomatoes
  • 4 Venison Sausages

Dry Goods and speciality stuff

  • Half a Teaspoon of Cinnamon
  • 4 Cloves
  • 2 oz Feta Cheese
  • 2 Lemons
  • 1 Small Handfuls Olives
  • 6 oz Pasta
  • 2 Teaspoon Raisins
  • Half a cup of Sliced Almonds

Other bits and bobs

  • 1 Teaspoon Brown Sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons Butter
  • 4 Tablespoons Flour
  • 4 Teaspoons Sherry Vinegar
  • 2 Cups Yoghurt
